Hi everyone,
My name is Teresa, and I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of two people who mean the world to me:
Courtney and Ed Baker.
I met Ed on August 24, 2007, almost 20 years ago, at a Shinedown show at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. I was 26, wide-eyed, and trying to break into the touring world as a “roadie.” Ed—Shinedown’s Road Manager at the time—didn’t hesitate to take me under his wing and show me what life on the road was really like.
That moment changed my life.
Over the years, Ed and I toured the world together, learned hard lessons side by side, and even spent months immersed in the industry with the friend who first introduced us. We weathered the heartbreak of COVID together as our entire industry came to a halt, forcing us to reinvent ourselves after losing time, income, and stability.
When I eventually changed careers, Ed was one of the few people who truly saw me—believing I could still do what I loved, build a family, and put my experience to use in a new way. His mentorship, trust, and support have been immeasurable, and I am forever grateful.
On May 31st, 2020 Ed married the love of his life, Courtney, who is now a permanent and cherished part of our family. Their love story wasn’t without its twists—fairytales rarely are—but they are unquestionably destined for each other. I actually met Courtney nearly eight years before they married, while on the road, and even then it was clear she was someone special. It was only a matter of time before she found her prince charming.
Now, just a few years into their marriage, with a lifetime ahead of them, they are facing the biggest battle of their lives.
Courtney is currently fighting an unexpected and aggressive battle with cancer. While she has faced medical challenges before, nothing compares to the road ahead. Her case has been taken on by the world-renowned Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York, where she will receive the best possible care.
Her treatment plan is intense:
- Daily radiation treatments
- Weekly chemotherapy
- For six consecutive weeks
From there, they will re-evaluate and remove anything remaining via surgery.
Courtney and Ed live in Binghamton, NY, which is over three hours away from Roswell. Daily travel simply isn’t realistic or safe—it would place enormous physical stress on Courtney during an already grueling treatment schedule. As a result, they must temporarily relocate to Buffalo for the duration of her care.
While insurance will help cover medical expenses, the reality is that cancer brings countless unanticipated costs no one ever plans for:
- Short-term housing in Buffalo
- Travel and fuel costs
- Weekend trips back to Binghamton to care for their beloved cats
- Maintaining their home during a brutal upstate New York winter
- Basic living expenses while normal work life is put on hold
No one should have to worry about keeping a roof over their head or choosing between rest and logistics while fighting for their life—but that’s the reality they’re facing.
Courtney and Ed are strong, resilient, and surrounded by love—but even the strongest people need support. This fundraiser is meant to ease the financial burden so they can focus on what truly matters: Courtney’s healing and their life together.
If you’re able to donate, please know that every dollar—no matter the amount—makes a meaningful difference. If you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser is just as powerful.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, supporting, and standing with Courtney and Ed as they fight this battle together.
With gratitude,
Teresa
