On August 16, my brother, Josiah — known to most as Sy — was involved in a horrific accident when his vehicle was hit by another driver.
Sy was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.
He has already undergone surgery to fuse his C5, C6, and C7 vertebrae in his neck, and doctors are also closely monitoring a brain bleed.
He also has a fracture involving the front of his forehead/skull.
Nerve injury causing weakness / difficulty moving his left foot.
Multiple bruises , scrapes and abrasions, including a large, traumatic scalp wound across the top of his head resulting in substantial skin loss.
At just 42 years old, he is now facing a recovery that none of us could have imagined.
If you know Sy, you know how incredibly strong and stubborn he is — and right now, those qualities are going to serve him well. Sy is very well liked and loved and he has an incredible number of friends, family members, and people throughout our community who care deeply about him.
Right now, there are still so many unknowns. We don’t know exactly what his recovery will look like or how long he will be unable to work. What we do know is that the medical bills, rehabilitation, living expenses, and time away from work are going to create a significant financial burden.
We are starting this GoFundMe so that Sy can focus on what matters most right now: healing and recovering, without having to worry about how he is going to keep up financially while he does it.
Any donation, no matter the amount, will help. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser and keeping Sy in your thoughts and prayers means just as much to our family.
Sy has always been the kind of person who would show up for someone else when they needed him. Now we’re hoping we can all show up for him.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the love, prayers, support, and generosity being shown to Sy during this incredibly difficult time.
