"To everyone who's reached out wanting to help, here's the way we've found that makes the biggest difference."
Susan recently underwent a delicate surgery on January 16 to remove a tumor located deep at the base of her skull, behind her eye and near a major artery. The surgery itself was successful, and we were so hopeful for a smooth recovery.
But in the weeks following surgery, Susan began experiencing severe and debilitating headaches, nausea, and sensitivity to light. What initially seemed like part of recovery quickly became something much more serious.
She has been in and out of the emergency room multiple times, and was ultimately transferred back to Duke University Hospital, where she was treated for two weeks. Doctors believe she is dealing with aseptic meningitis — a painful inflammation of the lining around the brain that can occur after complex skull-base surgery.
The pain has been intense. There have been moments where Susan has been unable to open her eyes, get out of bed, or find relief even with medication. She is now undergoing ongoing treatment, additional testing, and close monitoring as doctors work to reduce the inflammation and get her back on track.
Because of these complications, her recovery has been extended, and her planned radiation treatment has been delayed. She is unable to work during this time, and the medical costs, travel, and daily living expenses are quickly adding up.
Susan is strong, faithful, and fighting through this with incredible courage — but she should not have to do this alone.
We are asking for help to support Susan during this difficult time. Any donation, big or small, will go directly toward:
• Medical expenses and hospital care
• Travel and lodging related to treatment
• Daily living expenses while she is unable to work
If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this page and keeping Susan in your prayers.
