A CT scan revealed a large mass on her brain, and within hours, her condition rapidly worsened. She was rushed to the ICU, intubated, and placed on life support as doctors worked to stabilize her for emergency surgery.

Thanks to the quick actions of medical teams and the advocacy of loved ones, Sonya was transferred to KU Medical Center, where surgeons successfully removed the mass. The procedure went smoothly, and while the family awaits further information about the nature of the mass, the initial signs of recovery offered hope amid an incredibly difficult situation.

In the days following surgery, Sonya began showing small but meaningful signs of progress. She was able to breathe independently, her brain drains were removed, and she began responding to familiar stimuli and commands. Although her cognitive abilities remain impaired and setbacks occurred along the way, each step forward has been a testament to her strength, the support of the Chaney family, and the power of faith and prayer.

Sonya has now been transferred to Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, to begin specialized therapy aimed at helping her regain essential functions such as walking, speaking, and independence.
