Simona Howell is my beautiful sister in law. Her testimony is one that will break your heart. Born in Romania on May 7,1989 she spent the first two years of her life in an orphanage with no vaccinations, minimal nourishment, and the dictator at that time demanded no human interaction between the caregivers and the babies.
The Howells adopted Simona at age 2 and she began her jouney in America with the dreadful repricusions of polio. Utilizing a walker throughout her young life, making numerous trips to Shriners Hospital the Howell's were determined to get their baby girl walking appropriately.
At the age of 18 Simona proceeded with a below the knee amputation, and a prosthetic. This prosthetic does not bend, and Simona's walk remains very unstable and painful. Even with these ailments Simona has tried to reman very active, working multiple jobs, walking around a mile a day, and being an active leader in her church.
On October 11th Simona ventured to Duke Hospital to try to find some answers that would help her to walk properly, allow her to bend her knee, and ease her pain that has come with her poor gait over the yers. She met with one of the top surgeons in Virginia.
Simona left Duke with GREAT news..... they have suggested an above the knee amputation WITH a prosthetic that BENDS at the knee! Our sweet Simona has the chance to walk ''normal'' and pain free with the advancements that Duke is able to provide her with.
We are asking out community of friends, family, and church family to help us support Simona financially during this recovery period of 8-12 (maybe more) weeks with NO income while recovering from such a major procedure at such a young age (27years old).
The money raised in this campaign will go to her rent, insurance, utilities, food etc.
