Hello Everyone,
We are hoping you take the time to read our story and help by sharing this as much as you can! We appreciate everyone’s love and support through this entire journey!
August 2025 Sidney received his LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) for his heart. In years prior to getting this device, Sid was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and was referred to the heart failure team at Maine Medical Center. With getting this device, this was always a road to a heart transplant, but we were hopeful he would have the LVAD for years before needing transplant. Unfortunately, that ended up not being the case. Since August, Sid has had countless hospital stays for several different complications due to his heart.
December 6th everything changed. Sid was sick but it was nothing like he experienced before. He was going into Cardiogenic Shock, and his organs were shutting down. After being in MMC ICU for weeks, it was determined the best course of action would be being transferred to a Boston hospital to start the work up on getting on the heart transplant list.
December 20th Sid took ambulance transport to Tufts Medical Center in Boston but upon arrival, his kidneys had completely shut down making it, so they needed to start 24/7 dialysis as soon as he arrived. At this point he is still currently on dialysis and may now need a kidney transplant alongside a new heart. If he needs a new kidney, that will be addressed later this month. His conditioned worsened quickly when arriving in Boston because his LVAD and heart were not working properly, making it so we all feared the worse. He was not responsive and ended up losing a good chunk of his memory from the last few months. He has since improved but still is not out of the woods.
After weeks of testing, multiple denials, and meeting lots of new faces, Sid is finally on the heart transplant list.
What this means is Sidney is looking to be in Boston at Tufts in the Cardiac ICU waiting for his heart for an undetermined amount of time. It could be days, weeks or even months before a heart is available.
Due to his condition, Sid has not been able to work fulltime since May 2025. This has put a financial burden on not only himself, his fiancé Kayla and family. This GoFundMe is to help cover any medical related expenses, travel, lodging, and help towards any other needs for Sidney, Kayla, and family through this very difficult time.
After his transplant, Sid and Kayla will have to travel to Boston weekly to be seen by the team before his care can get transferred back to Maine. We are exploring and using all resources that are available to us at the hospital, but it is still all very expensive on limited income.
We are asking for your help, even if it's just sharing this page. Anything will help Thank you!
