Hello Everyone,
My name is Patty and I am reaching out with a mother's heart on behalf of my son Shawn. Shawn has been bravely fighting Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy.
In December 2024, what seemed like a simple pulled muscle quickly became something terrifying. Shawn suddenly lost strength in his arms, then his legs. After countless tests and a lengthy hospital stay he was diagnosed with (CIDP )Chronic Inflammatory Demyelination Polyneuropathy)-A rare and debilitating neurological disorder.
Because of CIDP, Shawn is no longer able to work. His doctors have deemed it unsafe for him to return to his job, as his strength, balance, and mobility can change without warning, Unfortunately, Shawn did not have disability insurance through his employer, which means there is no income coming in while he undergoes ongoing treatments and frequent medical appointments. Overnight, he went from being a 34 year old independent and hardworking man to facing the impossible stress of medical bills, travel costs, and basic living expenses with no financial safety net-all while fighting a serious, life-altering illness.
Since then, Shawn has been fighting every single day. Shawn is a proud man and father that would never ask for this himself, but as a mother, I will always do whatever I can for my child.
He is currently undergoing monthly IVIG treatments, has endured high-doses of steroids, and completed two rounds of chemotherapy in April 2025. He was suppose to begin a new chemotherapy treatment plan, but ongoing complications (kidneys, liver and heart issues) and insurance denials have delayed the progress. We are also trying to find a way to get a second opinion at the Cleveland and/or Mayo clinic, hoping for better answers and options. Which will require out -of-state travel and additional expenses. We are holding onto hope that this will lead to remission, or at the very least provide him with a better quality of life.
This condition has taken a tremendous toll on his body and spirit. It affects his strength, energy and comfort, causing constant pain in his hands, legs, skin, and nearly every part of his daily life. Through it all, Shawn has continued to fight with courage and determination even on days when the pain feels unbearable.
These funds will go directly towards continued medical appointments, specialist consultations, treatments, therapy’s, medications, travel expenses, supportive medical equipment, daily living needs, and any additional costs that can help improve Shawn's quality of life.
Your support, whether through donation , sharing this page, or keeping Shawn in your thoughts and prayers means more to us than words can express. Every act of kindness helps ease this burden and brings us one step closer to getting Shawn the care he so desperately needs and deserves.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read our story and for your compassion and generosity.
With endless gratitude,
Patty & family
