My name is Scott, father to an amazingly strong and beautiful little boy that has absolutely been through so much more than anyone should have to endure in a lifetime. Yet, he'll only be 4 in April. I honestly never thought I would have ever done this, but we're at a point that we don't know what to do.
So, he has a rare disease called ARPKD, and not going into extensive history, he has been on dialysis since he was 1 year old. Now, while fighting C-diff since July with multiple antibiotics, he got a yeast and fungal infection in his peritoneal cavity, resulting in his PD removal and a temporary catheter placed in his neck. The next day, we went to use it for dialysis treatment, and it was kinked in 2 spots, so back into surgery to do a hemodialysis port in his chest. Then, catching the flu days before Christmas, we couldn't catch a break. Now, today, another surgery for this Friday to replace the hemo catheter again because of a clot blockage. We have been at Vanderbilt in Nashville for weeks and have many weeks ahead. We're both out of work and in and out of the hospital. Home bills and hospital bills just keep stacking up. We are at our wits' end and just don't know what else to do.
