Hello everyone,
TL;DR - Sazid has been diagnosed with bone cancer.
Recap: Around 1.5 years ago, we organized a fundraising drive for our friend Sazidur Rahman Talukder (IBA-DU BBA 26th), who was suffering from a rapidly growing tumor in his right femur and required emergency amputation surgery. The outpouring of support we received was overwhelming and played a crucial role in helping his family through that incredibly difficult time. With your prayers and contributions, Sazid was able to bounce back from an incredibly grim situation.
However, we are heartbroken to share that his condition has recently taken a turn for the worse.
Following the surgery, a biopsy confirmed cancerous cells, and he underwent 6 cycles of chemotherapy last year at United Hospital, with medications sourced from Singapore.
Current Update: A few weeks ago, a new growth was detected near his operated area. After further tests, scans, and a biopsy in Singapore, doctors confirmed that:
1. The new growth contains osteosarcoma cells
2. The cancer has metastasized to his lungs, with multiple nodules detected
He has now been diagnosed with bone cancer (osteosarcoma).
It was also found that the previous chemotherapy regimen did not respond effectively. As a result, his doctors have started a new treatment plan:
1. Second-line chemotherapy with new drugs (6 cycles planned, with the first cycle starting today - 5th April)
2. After the first 2 cycles, he will return to Singapore for evaluation. Based on the results, treatment will either continue or shift to more targeted therapy
This news has been incredibly difficult to process, especially because Sazid is still strong, healthy, and full of life. The emotional toll and the financial struggle of his family need not be mentioned, as it is beyond our imagination.
Each cycle of chemotherapy costs approximately 7 lakh BDT, and each hospital visit in Singapore can range from 5–10 lakh BDT, depending on tests and scans. Altogether, our current estimate for his treatment until May stands at around ~79 lakhs BDT (65K USD). This number will most likely increase depending on how his treatment progresses, especially if targeted therapy becomes necessary.
These expenses are simply beyond what his family can manage alone, especially as they are still struggling with the financial burdens of the previous surgery and the following costs (chemo, scans, regular checkups).
We are therefore once again reaching out to you for support.
You can help in any way possible -
- Donations
- Spreading the word
- Connecting us with potential support avenues
- Keeping Sazid in your prayers
(For those observing, this cause is eligible for zakat.)
Documents containing recent medical reports, cost receipts, and estimates from his family has also been shared for transparency.
If you’ve read this far, please take a moment to say a prayer for him. Thank you.
