Sara, a beloved 18-year-old recent graduate from Port Richmond High school in Staten Island, New York was unlawfully detained on October 29, 2025, along with co-workers during an ICE raid at the mailing facility in Avenel, NJ where she worked. Sara came to the U.S. from Colombia three years ago seeking asylum due to life threatening circumstances in her native country. She rose to the top of her class to graduate with honors.

Sara’s work was a primary source of income for her mother who was disabled by a workplace spinal injury last year and her 12- and 9-year-old siblings. As her mother awaits surgery, local Staten Island rapid response volunteers are seeking to raise funds to help the family buy food and other necessities.

Like many recent detainees from New York and New Jersey, Sara was moved to detention in Texas, Ohio and Michigan before being returned to New Jersey for a hearing December 1.
Because of the tremendous demonstration of community support, the judge ruled to release Sara on bond.

Please support Sara and her family as she returns to her family and community!
