Hello everyone. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Katia Tyler. My beautiful partner and I are in need of some help. On November 7th, Ruth was on her way home from work when she stopped by Walmart to pick up a few groceries. After shopping, she was walking out from the store when she was hit from behind by a car. Luckily, the car was pulling out of a parking but was doing it quickly going about 10-15 mph. Ruth flew about 15 feet into a bush. The vehicle only stopped after folding her shopping cart in half and wedging it in between the car and the curb. She was incredibly lucky to have walked away with only the injuries she did. However, even though they aren’t “severe” or “critical”, they still are life changing. She has a severe concussion, causing her to not be able to remember things like her birthday or phone number, an injury to her knee making it so she can’t walk more than a few feet without a cane, and back/neck injuries making it so she can’t sit or stand for more than 20-30 minutes at a time without being in pain. All of which we still have no idea the severity or long lasting effects. Also not to mention, the PTSD that comes from it. In the time since the accident she’s slowly gotten better but is still at least a month or two away from being able to go back to work.
Luckily the guy that hit her, didn’t run and actually has insurance. However, we have learned that most doctor’s offices won’t wait for settlements, before their bills are due. Ruth is currently on short term disability, but the state made the mistake of ending her eligibility for payments two weeks ago. We have filed for an extension but know it’s going to take a long time for it to get processed considering we JUST got the payments for the first (and only approved) two weeks, yesterday. We are currently using all of my paycheck and credit cards to pay bills and get by. We have already used up any savings we had. But unfortunately, things are adding up, faster than we can take care of them.
We’ve been going back and forth about doing something like this, but with the time of year and it feels like everything that could go wrong, has, we have recognized that we truly do need help.
For those of you who don’t know Ruth very well, let me introduce her to you. Ruth is the type of person that never does anything for herself, let alone ask for help. She’s the one that I have to “force” (for lack of a better term) to buy $50 shoes for herself when her shoes at the time, had the soles halfway hanging off. She’s the one that moves an injured bee out of a walk way so it doesn’t get stepped on. Or the one that wakes up one morning and decides to apply as a volunteer to every humane society within 30 miles. Or the one that consistently, since she was a freshman in high school, chooses the “underdog” that everyone is betting against, and says “no, screw you” claims them, becomes their friend, and helps them become a better, more confident version of themselves. She’s the one that will say what we are all too scared to say, to make sure people are treated right. She’s the one that will take any hardship, not only get through it but will do it with a smile on her face. She’s a private person which sometimes catches a lot of people off guard. But once she knows you and trusts you, you find out she is the strongest, smartest, most brilliant, loyal, and vibrant person you will ever meet. And I consider myself very lucky to be able to play this game called Life with her as my partner.
Thank you for reading and even considering to help. Any and all help is appreciated.
