Standing with Ricky in His ALS Battle

My name is Ricky Pizarro. I am a 52-year-old husband, father of two, and someone who has spent much of my life helping others, supporting my family, and working hard to provide for those who depend on me.

In April of 2024, my life changed forever when I was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), a progressive neurological disease that slowly robs a person of their ability to walk, move, speak, and ultimately care for themselves.

Since my diagnosis, I have fought and continue to fight every day to maintain my independence, dignity, and quality of life. I have pursued treatments, therapies, adaptive equipment, and every opportunity available to slow the progression of this disease and preserve the precious time I have with my wife, children, family, and friends. Thus far, the treatments I have pursued for the last two years are quite expensive and much to my doctor's surprise I have survived his six-month life expectancy.

Unfortunately, the financial burden has become overwhelming. Medical expenses, treatments not covered by insurance, travel costs, mobility equipment, home modifications, and ongoing care needs continue to grow. I have already sacrificed and sold many things that were important to me in an effort to continue fighting this disease and maintain my health.

Asking for help is one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. I have always been the person others could count on. Today, however, I find myself in a vulnerable position where I need the support of others to continue this journey. A painful battle I fight every day.

I am not asking for miracles. I am asking for the opportunity to continue fighting, to maintain the best quality of life possible, to remain present for my family, and to explore promising treatments that may help slow the progression of this devastating disease.

Your donation, no matter the amount, will help offset medical expenses, specialized treatments, adaptive equipment, transportation needs, and other costs associated with living with ALS. If you are unable to contribute financially, sharing my story with others and your prayers would mean just as much.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to read my story, for your kindness, your prayers, and your support. Every act of generosity gives me hope and reminds me that I am not fighting this battle alone.

With gratitude,

Ricky Pizarro
