Hi! As many of you know, my step dad (Rich) is fighting Stage 4 Lung Cancer that has spread to his bones. It was discovered in October, diagnosed in November. They started chemo December 2nd. His cancer had stopped growing after one chemo treatment, but they had to stop chemo to start radiation for the tumors on his skull and hip. The pause on chemo has caused the cancer to start growing in his lungs again. After 10 rounds of radiation, he has now completed that and will start chemo again on Tuesday (January 13th). He has been hospitalized several times since October, outside of going for treatments. His most recent being this past week for pneumonia. The racking up of medical bills is causing a little bit of a hiccup in full/proper treatment. Currently they are in need of $12,000 to pay for their part last year and then $12,000 to pay for this year before the insurance will pay their part. Last year alone (October-December) his care was $80,000. Once they pay the $24,000 then the insurance will kick in. They are low income and struggling like most people in this economy, most people can't plan for such a tragic event to happen. We love them both. Rich is such an awesome husband, step dad, and bonus grandpa. Cancer s*cks, but I know that God is watching over them and they are both going to get through this.
