My dear friend Pete Delacot is facing a long recovery after a devastating accident. While trimming a tree, a large branch broke free, knocking the ladder out from under him. He fell approximately 10 feet striking his head on the concrete below.

Pete spent more than three weeks in ICU at an Abilene, Tx. hospital with a traumatic brain injury. Several days ago he was transferred to a specialized rehab facility in Houston, where the difficult work of recovery continues. Before his injury Pete was operating a lawn care business to supplement the small pension he's receiving from his career as an Abilene firefighter. That business income helped him stay afloat, and now that it has been interrupted the financial pressure is growing at the same time he needs to focus on healing.

Pete is not only a retired firefighter who served the public with honor, but also a kind and generous father, brother, and friend who has spent his life serving others. The organizer of this fundraiser served alongside him as a fellow firefighter and has remained a close friend for over 40 years. Anyone who knows Pete knows he would be extremely hesitant to accept charity because he is usually the the person giving it.

Donations will help with Pete's excessive medical bills (those not covered by insurance), everyday bills, and housing-related expenses. This will enable him to keep the small home and property he has worked so hard for, and have a home to return to while he continues his recovery. Because these bills and living costs will continue during rehab and the recovery ahead, recurring donations would provide steady support from month to month. One-time gifts are also deeply appreciated and will make an immediate difference.
