Standing with Pablo and Ancy

Hi everyone!

For those who don’t know me, my name is Lauren. I’ve known Ancy since we were kids - over 3 decades at this point! When Ancy met Pablo, he not only became her partner in life, but a part of our extended family as well.

As you know, Pablo and Ancy have been going through a difficult chapter and we are reaching out for support on their behalf. In the fall of 2024, Pablo was diagnosed with esophageal adenocarcinoma, a rare and aggressive cancer for someone his age. He started treatment immediately, undergoing months of chemotherapy before having an esophagectomy in February 2025. Even after this major surgery, he continued with chemotherapy and immunotherapy, persevering through each step with Ancy by his side and the love and support of his friends and family.

The months following his surgery have been difficult. Recently, Pablo underwent an exploratory operation to understand what was causing some of the issues he has been experiencing. Doctors discovered a diaphragmatic hernia (a complication from his original surgery) that was the cause of his pain and discomfort. During that surgery, the team also performed several washouts to check for cancer recurrence. Unfortunately, these washouts came back positive for cancer cells.

While CT and MRI scans did not show visible tumors, a PET scan revealed multiple areas suspicious for early metastasis in several areas of his body. We pray that this recurrence was caught very early, before the cancer could grow into larger masses. Since Pablo is young and his cancer type is atypical for someone his age, treatment options for recurrence can be complex and sometimes experimental. As a result, they are looking to get a second opinion at one of the only other hospitals with an expertise in treating this specific cancer type. Unfortunately, this institution is not covered by their insurance for second opinion consultations, leaving them with significant out-of-pocket costs during an already overwhelming time.

Pablo and Ancy should be able to focus on healing, treatment decisions, and supporting each other instead of navigating financial barriers to access expert care.

If you are able to support the cost of this second opinion, it would be greatly appreciated. Any amount, no matter the size, brings them one step closer to answers and the best possible care.

Your kindness, consideration, and generosity mean more than you know.

Thank you!
