My name is Omar Charles and I am creating this fundraiser for my sister Shakila Charles. If you know her, you know she has spent her entire life pouring herself into everyone around her. She has always been the one holding our family together. She raised her own children while also stepping in to raise our niece and nephews, all while working nonstop and going to school so she could provide them with a stable and loving home.

My sister has been the backbone of our family for as long as I can remember. She works harder than anyone I know and has always taken on whatever job she could just to make sure the kids never went without anything. She never asks for help, even when she is overwhelmed. She is the kind of woman who will give her last, then figure out how to make it through later.

Recently, everything came crashing down when her body finally gave out from the years of stress, exhaustion, and sacrifice. She was admitted to the hospital unexpectedly. The doctors have told us that her stay could be short, or it could last weeks or even months. Right now, there are many unknowns, and her only focus needs to be healing.

During this time she could not work. Watching this happen has been heartbreaking because I know how hard she fought to build the life she has. She worked for every single thing she owns, and she has always done it alone without asking anyone for help.

I refuse to let her come home from the hospital to a situation where she has lost everything she worked so hard for. I created this GoFundMe so we can support her the way she has always supported her children and our family. She deserves peace, stability, and the chance to recover without worrying about losing her home or falling behind on bills.
