Hi everyone, my name is Hayley and my adoring, charismatic, bright, and strong younger brother Noah was in a horrible electric bike accident Thursday April 2nd. We don’t all the details about the incident itself, but we do know he was non-responsive at the scene. Fortunately, a paramedic happened to be nearby with another patient and he stopped to help Noah until the ambulance arrived. They put in a breathing tube and rushed him to Wellstar North Fulton (which, we later learned, is a level II trauma center). They took excellent care of him.
He suffered some significant injuries, so the doctors addressed them in order of acuity. First up was the neurosurgeon. Noah has a traumatic brain injury (TBI) which causes the brain to swell and creates dangerous pressure inside the skull. To help with this, the neurosurgeon did a bone flap (craniotomy) to remove a small section of the left side of his skull to relieve pressure on his brain. That surgery went well, clearing him for his second surgery. Next up, the trauma surgeon checked for injuries to major organs (heart, lungs, diaphragm, etc) as well as the spine. They all looked OK but he was concerned about extra air in Noah’s chest. They thought this might be due to a tear in his esophagus. They put in chest tubes (one on each side) to remove the extra air and fluids from his lungs. That surgery also went well, but because North Fulton is not a pediatric hospital, the trauma surgeon took extra precautions, such as leaving the surgical incision in his abdomen open (but protected by a surgical sponge) so the pediatric surgeons can easily operate again, and then he arranged for Noah to be transferred by helicopter to the new Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Since then, they found out his right collar bone is broken and will keep him sedated longer than originally anticipated to aid his healing.
Today, April 4th they were able to close his abdominal cavity after ensuring there was no further internal injuries. Noah has a long healing journey ahead of him and this GoFundMe is to help alleviate the financial side of this tragedy so we can all focus/be present for Noah's recovery. Any donations are greatly appreciated and we love you all.
