On Friday the 6th, Nikita was involved in a serious car accident after hitting ice and sliding into oncoming traffic. She was flown to the hospital by Eagle III. She is currently in the ICU in an induced coma.
Nikita has sustained multiple brain injuries, including a diffuse axonal injury, along with significant swelling. At this time, she is not breathing on her own and does not have cognitive responsiveness. Her medical team has carefully attempted to reduce sedation to assess for response, but as of the most recent evaluation, there has been very little response.
The doctors have explained that her brain is working extremely hard right now — like a thunderstorm trying to reconnect pathways. Because of this, stimulation can be overwhelming, and she needs quiet, rest, and time to heal. For that reason, visitation is currently limited to reduce overstimulation and support her recovery.
This will be a long road that requires patience, gentleness, and ongoing care. We will share updates as they become available.
Nikita currently has no insurance, and we know costs will build up. This is not a quick process. We can’t imagine the cost of the Eagle III flight alone.
Please know that the outreach and love have been overwhelming in the most meaningful way. Nikita is deeply loved and has an incredible community around her — she truly is our social butterfly. If you would like to reach out, you may contact Megan, or her sister Alex Banick, (Larry wants to focus on Nikita.) but we kindly ask for patience as the family navigates this difficult time.
Thank you for holding Nikita in your thoughts, prayers, and hearts. Your support — in any form — means more than words can express
