Hi, my name is Shanda, and I’m creating this fundraiser for my dad during one of the most difficult chapters of his life.
My dad has been hospitalized since December 30th following a massive heart attack and severe sepsis. Since being admitted, doctors have continued to uncover additional complications, and he is still undergoing ongoing testing and treatment. While we are thankful he is receiving care, his recovery has been long, complex, and emotionally exhausting.
Before this happened, my dad worked as a caregiver for individuals with disabilities—a role he took great pride in. Helping others wasn’t just a job to him; it was his purpose. Unfortunately, due to the severity of his medical condition, he will not be able to return to that work once he is eventually discharged. Accepting that reality has been incredibly hard for him.
Once he is released from the hospital, he will be transferred to inpatient rehabilitation, and at this time, it is unknown when or if he will be able to safely return home, as he lives alone. Right now, his focus must remain on surviving, stabilizing, and rebuilding strength—not worrying about how bills will be paid.
My dad is single, and I am his only child. I am doing everything I can to be there for him, but the financial strain is becoming overwhelming. He had his SSDI phone appointment today, but we’ve been told that benefits—if approved—can take at least five months to begin. During that time, he has no income and very limited resources.
Funds raised will help cover:
• Mortgage and utilities while he is hospitalized and in rehab
• Medical-related expenses not fully covered by insurance
• Basic financial obligations while he waits for disability benefits
Asking for help is not easy for him, or for me, but this support would provide some stability during a time filled with uncertainty and fear.
If you’re able to donate, know that it will make a real difference. If you can’t, sharing this page or keeping my dad in your thoughts and prayers means more than I can say.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for showing compassion during an incredibly difficult time.
