It is with great hope and prayers that we are sharing the story of miss Mila. Our precious Mila is a 12-year-old Northern Nevada middle school student. She and her family, my niece and nephew (her mom and dad), are asking for any help that you may feel so inclined to offer.
Branden and Chelsea have been active members of the Spanish Springs community for much of their lives, giving to school charities and coaching many of your kids in cheer at the elementary and high school levels. They would give the shirt off their back to help anyone, so you can imagine the devastation that came along with the diagnosis that Mila has a large brain tumor growing on the lower right of her brain. The journey began.....
In December, Mila was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor that will require her to undergo brain surgery in one weeks' time. This brain tumor is so rare in children and has most often reserved itself for diagnosis in adults. Due to its rarity, a very specialized team of surgeons has been assembled. She is estimated to be in surgery for 10+ hours and in recovery for at least 10 days in the Bay Area. While we are blessed that this team of surgeons and specialists has assembled to treat her, this has come at a financial burden to this family, and that is where you come in. Chelsea has had to put her career on pause as staying close to her daughter at all times is her number one priority. Although they do have medical insurance through Branden's company, which has been amazing, the travel needed to all the specialists, the multiple medical tests (this girl has been poked and scanned more than most people will ever see in a lifetime), trying to hold it together while missing an entire income, and trying like crazy to keep Mila's very active older brother, who is in high school, as normal in his life as possible is tough.
They will need to stay down in the Bay Area with her for two weeks during her recovery and then begin the journey of recovery once she returns home.
Prayers are needed, and anything above and beyond that would be amazing to help them to ease life's necessities during this very challenging time for this family.
We will keep everyone posted as to her recovery. Thank you for any and all of your support!
