Hi, I’m Abby O’Bar, the eldest daughter of Mike (Michael) O’Bar. While he had symptoms prior, on New Year’s Eve he was admitted to the hospital, where he remains hospitalized and undergoing extensive testing. He has been diagnosed with end-stage heart failure, with his heart currently functioning at only 10–15%. Doctors are running tests to determine whether blockages are present. He has responded to treatment so far, including fluid removal, which has improved his breathing, and his chest X-ray has shown some improvement, though his heart remains significantly enlarged. The diuretics were temporarily put on hold due to low blood pressure and poor kidney function, and he experienced anxiety related to dehydration, which was treated with medication. He will require lifelong medication, strict lifestyle changes, and close medical management to survive. These changes include cardiac rehabilitation, regular follow-ups with a cardiologist and nephrologist, and ongoing monitoring of kidney function. He will be wearing a LifeVest for the next three months. A kidney stone was also discovered, and further testing is underway. While there have been some positive signs, including improved breathing, he has no health insurance, is accumulating significant hospital bills, and will be unable to work for at least 3–4 months while doctors determine whether any heart function can be regained.
