Dear Family, Friends and Community,
July of 2024 our father Michael "Mike" received devastating news and was diagnosed with stage 3 Stomach Cancer. After completing 7 rounds of Chemo (total of 196 hours) 28 hours every 2 weeks and having 60% of his stomach removed, he entered Remission in August of 2025.
Here we are 6 months later and his cancer is back more aggressive. Doctors have found that the cancer has spread into his intestinal cavity, the space in his abdomen that surrounds many of his digestive organs. Cancer cells are also present in the fluid within his abdomen. This fluid ended up collecting in the area between his vital organs such as the Pancreas and Liver, causing swelling, pain, and significant discomfort. Doctors are not recommending any treatment and has deemed his condition as not curable.
Due to the fluid blockage he was admitted into the hospital in February where he underwent 3 procedures to drain the fluid. 2 procedures were unsuccessful due to a blockage and unable to place a stent (internally), the 3rd procedure successfully placed two external drains to empty the fluid from within the area between the pancreas and liver and from the bile ducts, which will remain there for a minimum of 6 weeks.
Mike is a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend who despite everything he is enduring continues to make everyone laugh, smile, and in good spirits. He has always shown up for everyone welcoming everyone into his home and treating everyone like family. He now needs everyone to show up and support him in his fight against cancer.
The road ahead is uncertain, and will demand a great deal physically, emotionally, and financially. Yet Mike faces this fight with the same Courage, Strength, and Sense of humor he has lived with his entire life. He continues to have Faith and we all believe in the Power of Prayer.
While Mike's focus needs to be on rest, healing and comfort, the reality is the cancer care is incredibly expensive, between hospital stays, medication, appointments, the day-to-day cost of living, and time off from work as our Mother Bernice is his primary caretaker and main source of income. We are asking for the support from our family, friends, and community to help ease the burden on Mike and the family. Your support will help cover medical expenses, day-to-day expenses and provide stability for Mike and his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time and most importantly reminds Mike he is not facing this alone.
If you are able to donate, share, or simply hold Mike and family in your thoughts and prayers, our family would be deeply grateful. Your kindness, love, and support mean more than words can express.
Thank you for standing with Michael in his fight against cancer!
