This winter has been tough on everyone, especially the elderly in our neighborhood. After a recent car accident, I’ve been dealing with serious back issues, which made this snow season harder than usual.

I bought a snowblower because shoveling is not an option for me right now, but even with the machine, the snow turned into solid ice overnight.

The heavy layers had to be chopped up first, and it was still a real challenge.

While I was outside trying to help my elderly neighbors clear their snow, a man named Michael drove by and stopped to ask if I needed help.

At first, my pride said no.

But as I walked toward his vehicle, I noticed bags in the back. I asked if he was okay, and he shared something that hit me hard. He is currently living out of his van.

Despite his situation, Michael still wanted to help others. He told me he is a handyman who has fallen on hard times and is trying to get steady work again. He even offered to help for free, but I could not accept that.

He wants to earn his way, not take handouts. He also shared that he has a daughter he is working hard to get back into his life, and he is determined to get back on his feet.

Michael did not just help me. He has been helping people clear snow all over the area, including Williamstown, Sewell, Glassboro, and Mantua.

Even while going through his own struggle, he keeps showing up for others. That says everything about the kind of person he is.

Michael has no idea I am doing this. But sometimes good people just need a small lift at the right time.

This fundraiser is to help him secure stable housing, get reliable tools, and move forward with dignity.

He showed up to help when he had every reason not to. Now it is our turn to show up for him.
