Hi all!
My name is Maya and I am a 25 year old cancer survivor.
In June 2025, I was hospitalized and swiftly diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. I spent 42 days as "bubble boy" in a bone marrow transplant unit on lockdown completing my induction phase of treatment. Once released, I continued outpatient treatment on a schedule of 6 weeks on 2 weeks off until I was able to ring the bell February 27, 2026!
Due to my hospitalization, physical limitations, and cognitive impairment, I have been unable to work since. While maintaining my financial contributions to the house from what savings I did have, my partner was picking up the slack where necessary. Several weeks before I was due to finish treatment and after 5 years together, he left me. The stress of my illness had become too much for him. I am now solely responsible for the household, our dog, and managing all the aspects of life that come with being a cancer patient on my own.
I am asking for help with one months worth of expenses. I have applied to all the services available to me, from both my state and county, and all the grants that I qualified for as a cancer patient and now survivor.
I am recuperating a bit slower than expected but am hoping to be able to return part time in May!
A rough breakdown of what the funds will be used for:
$1,600 - mortgage
$500 - natural gas, electricity, water (my utility company is really doing a number on the community)
$170 - car insurance
$230 - cover food expenses for myself that exceed my SNAP benefits, one bag of dog food, and gas to get to and from the many follow up appointments
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!
Thank you very much!
