Hello Everyone,
My name is Michelle Knoll. I am a mother of Matthew Knoll (18) and 3 other beautiful children, Michael (15), Thomas Jr (7), and Esperanza (4). What started as fatigue, tiredness, and an extreme cough at basic training led to a devastating diagnosis: Aggressive T-cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Aggressive T-cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia is a fast-growing, aggressive blood cancer where immature T-cells (a type of white blood cell) rapidly multiply, crowding out healthy cells and impacting the immune system. This requires prolonged hospital stays and rounds of chemotherapy.
Matthew was immediately rushed to Resolute Hospital, then transported to Baptist Medical Center where his diagnosis was confirmed. From there, he was sent to Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio to begin his fight since Nov 8th, 2025. While chemo has been necessary, it has also been incredibly hard on his body.
Matthew is currently alone in Methodist Children's Hospital and has recently been released from ICU. He will need a lot of care in order for him to fully recover. We are trying to provide as best as we can for our family while also trying to support him. I am currently traveling from Geronimo to San Antonio 3 to 4 days a week and utilizing available drop-in care whenever possible for our younger children.
Going forward, it is unclear the type and amount of accommodations Matthew will need.
Why We Need Your Help
Fighting leukemia is not only physically and emotionally draining, it's financially overwhelming. Due to the severity of the diagnosis and the extensive treatment, Matthew will not be able to return to work. I will also be out of work for the weeks that he will be out of the hospital. He will have to have around-the-clock care after being discharged from the hospital.
We are asking for any help you can give. Every dollar raised will go directly towards medical treatment, recovery support, and living expenses during this difficult time.
Thank you all for taking the time to read our story.
We are praying daily for Matthew's recovery — and with your help and donations, he has a fighting chance.
