Hello! My name is LaShaunte Newport, and recently, my mom Marcia Mann-Vandiver has been diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic renal cancer. Alongside her cancer diagnosis, she has also developed heart failure, respiratory failure, and severe anemia. This cancer has spread to her bones causing her body to be weak. To combat the cancer, her team of doctors have worked on a plan at giving her different strategies to help strengthen her body by starting chemotherapy and immunotherapy. These will work to help my mom in her recovery.
Myself, her husband, and the rest of our family are working tirelessly with the nurses and doctors to help my mom in any way we can. I currently live in New York, which hinders my ability to help and be there for my mom in the way that we both need.
However, she cannot start these plans that the doctors have come up with due to financial reasons. Treatment sessions are $455 each for 34 weeks, and if insurance helps, there is a $4,200 deductible that her and her husband currently do not have the money for. My mom was the main source of income for her and her husband, but following her diagnosis, income is tight and I am not in the position to leave my three special needs children to take care of her at this time.
My mom has always been a light in others' lives, with nothing but praises being tied to her name. She constantly lends a helping hand to those in need and never thinks to ask for the same in return. She is one of the most benevolent people I know; my mom would never hurt a fly. My mom is the type of person who has pulled herself over before the officer could because she felt so guilty about running a stop sign.
This GoFundMe is being created to help my mom cover her cancer expenses, starting with her treatments. Your support will help ensure that financial concerns do not add to her stress during this incredibly difficult time. Please consider helping Marcia as she faces this journey. We thank you for anything you can give, even if it's just sharing the link. We appreciate in you taking part in our journey.
