My name is Christopher Newberry.
My wife, Manami Newberry, was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and admitted to the Oncology Center at UNC Hospitals Chapel Hill. She has been there for three weeks, receiving chemotherapy every day. She will continue receiving treatment for the foreseeable future while we await outpatient care.
We are a military family of 5 who returned to North Carolina after multiple overseas tours. I’m a Fuels Management troop stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, while my wife is a teacher’s assistant at a local charter school in Goldsboro, NC. This move was made purposely for us to develop a closer bond with my stateside family as I prepare to retire from military service. We are now currently involved in the fight of our lives as our matriarch battles this horrible disease. We will be victorious, but we are humbly requesting help during this journey.
During this time, I have driven up to the Cancer Center from Goldsboro, North Carolina, every day in order to help support her and ensure she’s receiving the best possible care during this trying time. I typically have to pay up to $10 a day to park at this hospital. The gas is also becoming very expensive due to the distance of my commute. I’m now the sole provider for my family, and this scenario won’t change for what may be several months due to the intensive chemotherapy and the recovery time Manami will need.
We are reaching out for help now because we are trying to bring some of my wife’s family over from Okinawa, Japan, in order to help her on the road to recovery, as well as soften the financial burden caused by this situation.
Our family will fight hard to ensure we help our wife and mother, Manami, defeat cancer, but we would be remiss to claim that we don’t need help. We humbly ask that you please help us by donating money, sharing this posting with others who may be able to help us financially, or doing both. All moneys collected will go toward her family’s plane tickets and any fuel or auto maintenance expenses that may be encountered during this time. We thank everyone wholeheartedly for their help, and I appreciate the love you’ve chosen to show my family. Thank you all, and God Bless!
