My name is Monica Helton and I am one of Makayla McGuffie's biggest fans. She is one tough cookie and our little sweet pea. At this time, her family needs some help so that they can best support her!

Makayla has been in the hospital since October 22, 2025 when she underwent a surgery to have an ostomy bag in hopes to make an positive impact on the quality of her life. Unfortunately, due to complications Makayla has had to have three additional surgeries since Christmas Eve. She has made positive steps forward in recovery which has allowed her to get close to being released but due to additional unexpected health concerns and a serious CDF infection she remains under direct Doctor's care in the hospital.

Makayla is the most resilient young lady I have ever known. She really can't wait to be back in her own home; to sleep in her own bed, and be with her most loved companions, her dog Chloe and Scar, her lizard.

By the grace of God, Makayla has spent her first day off of the breathing ventilator after being dependent upon it for the last 11 days. God is answering our prayers and Makayla continues to fight for her life!

Makayla has a team surrounding her; however, Mom is not able to work due to the constant care Makayla needs, and Dad has been in town for nearly a month (as he lives in Yuma). Due to their dedication to their daughter, neither of them has been able to work their full-time jobs. Their immediate financial need is for assistance with rent, car payments, bills, purchasing basic groceries, and gas to get back and forth to the hospital.

Their need to be by Makayla's bedside has recently increased as Makayla is now experiencing severe anxiety when alone and has also encountered a new seizure condition; therefore, family and their familiar presence are of the utmost importance for Makayla's healing journey.

Makayla may be transferred to UCLA for another opinion from the expert Doctors there, and Makayla's family will need to be close. This support will allow for them to stay by her side and rent a short term Air BnB.
