One moment, everything was normal. The next, our father was fighting for his life—and we had no idea it was coming.

Lynn began noticing a shift in his energy around October. As his daughter, I could see something wasn’t quite right and encouraged him to get checked, but like many parents, he brushed it off.

In February, he came to visit us in Florida. He was scheduled to leave early in the morning on Friday, February 27th, but that day was different. Even with his usual migraines, he would normally push through—but this time, he couldn’t get out of bed or function. That’s when I knew something was seriously wrong.

Not long after, he went to visit his mother at the hospital following her heart procedure. While there, he appeared dazed and unwell. He made the decision to go home, but he should not have been driving in that condition. As a family, we knew we couldn’t wait any longer. My brother took him to the emergency room that same day.

That Friday night, Lynn was transferred to McLaren Port Huron Hospital due to concerns about a possible stroke. He remained hospitalized for several days, waiting for further testing. On Monday, after undergoing extensive testing, we finally got answers.

Doctors discovered a hole between the chambers of his heart, along with evidence of multiple past “mini-strokes,” likely caused by blood clots. This was devastating news. Lynn will now require heart surgery to repair the hole, along with ongoing monitoring of his heart and blood pressure.

In addition, he will need speech therapy due to the effects of the stroke, a sleep study, and continued medical evaluations to determine the next steps in his recovery.

Lynn has been working hard to pay off his bills so he could retire this fall. Unfortunately, life had other plans. Now, our focus is on helping him heal without the added burden of financial stress.

This will be a long road filled with major lifestyle changes, but we are standing by his side every step of the way.
