Standing with Lynn Through Her Cancer Battle

Cynthia Lynn, a successful business owner in Slidell, Louisiana, was stepping onto a work truck when suddenly she felt something in her leg snap.

Doctors told her that her femur had snapped in half and they found out why: Leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer.

This was emotionally jarring as Lynn lost her father, US Army CPL Ralph Lawrence Owens Sr., to cancer in October of 2007, and her half-brother, Ralph Louis Owens, to cancer in February of 2017. Her mother passed away in 2011, and her parents are buried together in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.

Lynn had to close her floral business, "2 Crazy Daisies Flowers and Gifts," in order to receive medical care. Her femur was replaced with a metal rod, and she received multiple radiation treatments which destroyed the skin on her leg to the extent that she couldn't lay or sit on it until it healed, which took several months. When she could finally get up and moving, she fainted and broke her tibia, and has been bedridden ever since, relying on non-emergency medical transportation to attend her appointments.

She has since depleted all of her savings, and family and friends have been pitching in to help. She is pending for disability, which in Louisiana includes an application for SNAP benefits, but the medical bills are so extensive that she's considered declaring bankruptcy. Medicaid was approved, but didn't cover the expenses retroactively.

The total cost from the date she stepped on the truck - March 21, 2025 - until today has been estimated between $40,000 - $50,000, not counting the $20,000 loss in savings and the loss of her business at the beginning of this journey.

We are asking for help to cover accumulated expenses and current treatments as she awaits the decision from SSA disability determination. We greatly appreciate you all and will try to update as we go.
