Lori Truscott has always been the person others turn to—the one who shows up, lifts people up, and quietly makes sure no one is ever left behind. Now, it’s our turn to show up for her.

Lori was recently diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer following a routine mammogram. She will undergo a double mastectomy at the end of April, with the hope of making a full recovery in time to celebrate one of the most meaningful moments in her life—her daughter’s wedding this fall. While her prognosis is hopeful, this journey has already brought significant emotional and mental challenges, with more ahead as she prepares for surgery and recovery.

Lori is married to her high school sweetheart, Bill, and together they’ve built a beautiful life over 34 years, raising four incredible children—Kyle (32), Nicole (28), Dakota (26), and Jacob (24). Her family is her world, and she cherishes time with each of them in deeply personal and meaningful ways.

Through years spent supporting her children in dance and hockey, Lori has built a community rooted in friendship, faith, and connection. She truly embodies the belief that it takes a village—and she has been at the heart of that village for so many. Whether it’s a quiet walk in the country with her dog Cali, soaking in the sunshine, or simply being present for the people she loves, Lori finds joy in life’s simple, meaningful moments.
We (Philippe Lapointe and Steven Holtz), along with Lori’s youngest son Jacob, had the privilege of playing hockey together at the University of Michigan. Through those years and beyond, we’ve seen firsthand the kind of person Lori is—selfless, compassionate, and endlessly giving. She lives her life in service to others, always making sure those around her feel seen, supported, and cared for.

In honor of Lori and her strength, Steven and I will be running the San Diego Half Marathon as she begins this fight. It’s a small way for us to stand beside someone who has spent her life standing beside others. Even amid this journey, Lori’s heart remains focused on helping others. She has expressed a desire to give a portion of the proceeds to a charitable cause, though she is still discerning which organization she feels most called to support.

Lori has never been one to ask for help—but now is the time to rally around her and her family. She will continue to lean on her faith, her strength, and the love of those around her. Let’s come together to support her through this chapter, just as she has supported so many of us.

Any contribution, prayer, or message of encouragement means more than words can express.
Thank you for being part of Lori’s village.
