My aunt, Liz Owens, has faced incredible challenges with remarkable courage throughout her life. From the tender ages of 14 to 18, she battled cancer twice, enduring chemotherapy, radiation, and three intestinal surgeries. During her first surgery, she flatlined, prompting the doctor to tell her mother, "Your daughter is a little fighter." The medical staff fittingly nicknamed her the "walking miracle." By 19 years of age, my aunt had survived these trials, entered a five-year remission, and resumed a quality of life.

Recently, my aunt received another daunting diagnosis: Stage 3 breast cancer, which has unfortunately spread to her lymph nodes. Given the aggressive nature of this cancer, she is scheduled for surgery and chemotherapy/radiation. This diagnosis has left her unable to work, relying on a limited sole source of income. Liz now needs financial assistance to cover her living expenses. I have a challenging journey ahead, as my doctors have informed me that it will take at least a year to regain a good quality of life.
