On Monday, August 10, Levi, broke his tibia through the growth plate and had to undergo emergency surgery. The surgery was incredibly traumatic, with multiple complications, that lead him being sent to Wake Forest for more care.
After being transferred to Wake Forest, Levi underwent another emergency surgery. Despite the incredible efforts of his medical team, they were unable to save his leg, and Levi had to have an above-the-knee amputation.
Our hearts are absolutely broken for him and for his family.
But there is something we want everyone to understand about just how serious this situation became.
The muscle tissue in Levi’s leg had begun to die, and we were told that the dead muscle tissue was starting to affect his kidneys. His doctors told us that if we had not demanded a change in doctors when we did, it wouldn’t just have been his leg that we lost—it could have been Levi, too.
We were told that he literally did not have another day.
So while we are heartbroken beyond words that Levi lost his leg, we are also overwhelmingly grateful that we did not lose him. God spared our boy. He is here. He is alive. And he is fighting.
Levi is currently in recovery, and at just 15 years old, he now faces a long road of healing, rehabilitation, learning to navigate life with a prosthetic limb, and adjusting to a life-changing loss.
He has already endured more than any child should ever have to experience.
Victoria has been by Levi’s side through this entire ordeal, fighting for him, advocating for him, and loving him through the most terrifying days of their lives. Joey has been fighting just as hard from home, caring for their two younger sons and making sure they are safe, loved and cared for while Victoria remains at Levi’s side. Both parents are carrying an unimaginable amount right now, each doing everything they can for their children.
They now face an entirely new chapter of caring for Levi while continuing to care for their two younger sons, who also have significant medical and support needs.
This family now has three children who require significant care, support and advocacy. And the physical, emotional and financial needs ahead of them are enormous. Their family is a one-income household with one vehicle, and because Victoria is not physically able to care for all three children on her own right now, Joey will need to take time away from work to help care for their children.
We are asking our community to continue to PRAY, SHARE and SUPPORT this family in whatever way you feel led.
Please pray for:
Levi’s physical healing and pain management
Strength and peace as he processes this life-changing loss
His upcoming rehabilitation and prosthetic journey
Victoria and Joey as they navigate this new reality
Their entire family as they adjust and heal together
Provision for the many financial and practical needs ahead
Every donation, meal, prayer, message, share and act of kindness makes a difference. ❤️
