Who is Lemuel?

Lemuel Petlacalco is a loving husband, dad, uncle, brother, and a man of strong values who has always worked hard and supported his family. Today, he is facing the most difficult battle of his life.

Several years ago, Lemuel contracted Hepatitis C. The exact cause remains unclear — it may have been related to a blood transfusion. For many years, he followed medical treatment carefully in hopes of eradicating the virus.

Unfortunately, despite his efforts, the long-term damage to his liver progressed silently.

Today, his diagnosis is advanced liver cirrhosis.

Cirrhosis can remain without symptoms for many years while quietly destroying liver tissue. Recently, his condition has worsened dramatically. His body has been accumulating large amounts of fluid in his abdomen (ascites), causing swelling, pain, and severe discomfort.

Yesterday, Lemuel had to be rushed to the hospital after experiencing severe internal bleeding. This had happened before, but now his physical condition has significantly declined, and his life is at serious risk.

What is happening now?

Lemuel currently requires:

Emergency drainage procedures for ascites (approximately $10,000 MXN each time)

Endoscopies every two months (approximately $15,000 MXN each procedure)

Ongoing medications

Continuous medical monitoring

Doctors have explained that the only long-term solution to save his life may be a liver transplant, and possibly even a kidney transplant. These procedures are extremely costly and far beyond our family’s financial reach.

Over the past years, his savings have been exhausted covering medical appointments, treatments, and previous emergency hospital visits.

While he does have insurance, many critical decisions and faster medical interventions depend heavily on available financial resources.

Time and resources now determine the chances of saving his life.

Lemuel Petlacalco es un hombre trabajador, querido por su familia, que hoy enfrenta una etapa crítica de salud.

Después de haber contraído Hepatitis C hace años — posiblemente derivada de una transfusión — y tras años de tratamiento, el daño progresivo en su hígado derivó en un diagnóstico de cirrosis hepática avanzada.

Actualmente su estado es delicado. Ha presentado acumulación severa de líquido (ascitis) y recientemente sufrió una de varias hemorragias internas que requirió hospitalización de emergencia.

Para preservar su vida, Lemuel necesita procedimientos médicos constantes, medicamentos y, eventualmente, un trasplante de hígado — e incluso posiblemente de riñón. Estos tratamientos y cirugías representan costos que superan por completo nuestras posibilidades económicas.

Antes de llegar a este momento, ya había sido hospitalizado en varias ocasiones y comenzó tratamientos médicos costosos que han sido cubiertos con los ahorros familiares. Hoy enfrentamos una etapa crítica en la que contar con los recursos necesarios puede marcar la diferencia entre la vida y la muerte.

Con mucha humildad, hemos decidido hacer pública su situación. Durante mucho tiempo tratamos de mantener este proceso dentro de la esfera familiar, por tratarse de algo profundamente personal e íntimo. Sin embargo, hoy necesitamos ayuda para poder darle una oportunidad real de seguir luchando por su vida.
