Hello we are the Carr family, as most of our family and friends know Laura Carr the heart of our family has been in and out of the hospital. On January 30th 2026, Laura passed out while working at SBU and was rushed to the hospital via ambulance. We did not know what was wrong with her, she was septic and her blood pressure kept tanking. Luckily Dr. Bartgis, found out what was wrong. Laura’s colon was dying, she was rushed into surgery where they took 2 ft of colon out. However Laura’s body was not strong enough to continue surgery that day. So she had a medical bandage placed over her open abdomen so she could rest in the ICU until she was strong enough to continue surgery. On Sunday February 1st they took her back into surgery and removed another foot of colon and were able to close her up. Laura was in the ICU on a breathing tube and sedated from the January 30th until evening February 2nd. She was very weak when she first woke up and could not talk very well or move very well. That’s when the journey to recovery started. With the amazing help of the staff at CMH, her Husband Micheal, her children, and the rest of her friends and family she started to slowly recover. Recovery was hard though, due to her weak body, the respiratory infection, and the impact of the surgery’s. However Laura and all her loved ones stayed strong. She slowly went from ICU, to PCU, finally to Med surge. Then on February 10th she was discharged from the Hospital. We were all so happy to have her back home with us. She was doing well until the drainage from her incision started getting heavy, to heavy and she was in a lot of pain. On February 15th around 2 in the morning Micheal rushed Laura back to the ER. She had to undergo a 3rd surgery, and the recovery process had to restart. She stayed in the hospital where she could be closely monitored. It was very hard on her and Micheal, spending weeks in the hospital worried about Laura’s health. Due to the amount of antibiotics she was on Laura had acute kidney failure. But once again thanks to the amazing doctors they were able to reverse the kidney failure and lockdown what infection she had so they could limit the amount of antibiotics she needed. On March 4th she was able to come home once again with an IV to fight the other infection she had at the end of her stay. But that infection cleared up and she was getting stronger then ever. She was walking more, staying awake more, and was the happiest she’d been in a while. Then sadly on Monday March 16th she once again went back to the hospital. She had to undergo a 4th surgery. Luckily this surgery was not as intensive, from our understanding it was only an abscess under her incision. So now the road to recovery starts again. The Lord has got us through this far and we know he will continue to be with us until Laura is fully healed. Our wonderful family and friends have been with us throughout it all as well and we are so blessed for all their help with food, cards, visiting Laura in the hospital, and just being there for all we need. We are so thankful for all you’ve done and we once again are asking for your help. Laura’s medical bills are upwards of $20,000 and due to being denied with the insurance we are struggling to pay for it. We ask if anyone is able to help, we would appreciate your donate. Thank you all for your support during this rough time. God bless.
