Background:
Just days before Christmas 2025, Laura Cooksey and her family were thrust into a season they never could have imagined. Laura’s husband, Kyle, was rushed to the emergency room with a range of alarming symptoms, including chest and abdominal pain, extreme exhaustion, and disorientation. After a series of urgent tests and scans, Kyle was diagnosed with pneumonia and meningitis. As doctors worked to gain control of these serious conditions, what was expected to be an overnight hospital stay extended into the New Year, as one complication began cascading into another.
Now more than seven weeks into hospitalization, it has become clear that Kyle is on a healing journey that will take time. What was initially believed to be a relatively contained medical event has unfolded into a complex series of resulting effects, requiring continued monitoring, care, and recovery. Kyle needs to take time off from work to focus on his health.
At the same time, Laura’s capacity has been stretched to a near breaking point. To her already full life as a wife, mother of three, singer, and co-owner of a company that contracts vocalists for sessions, tours, and live events, she has now added the roles of caregiver, advocate, and day-to-day decision-maker during Kyle’s hospitalization.
A typical day for Laura now looks something like this: getting up early to make sure her children are off to school, spending hours in a studio session singing, heading straight to the hospital to meet with doctors and specialists, hopefully leaving in time to make it to an evening game for her kids, then returning home to prepare for the next day, only to repeat it all again.
We want to be the Body of Christ with and for Laura and Kyle in this season—helping to carry some of the very real, very practical burdens they are facing, so they can focus on healing, family, and hope.
Why We’re Giving:
The financial impact of prolonged hospitalization, ongoing medical care, and lost income has been significant. Even more, the looming question of “how will we pay for” has added a layer of stress that only complicates the grueling season, as days have turned into weeks and, now, into months.
Funds raised through this GoFundMe will help cover:
- Medical and hospital-related expenses
- Living expenses during an extended leave from work
- Relief from the immediate financial pressure so the family can focus on healing and recovery
Our prayer is that generosity would remove worry, restore peace, and create space for strength and healing.
A Prayerful Invitation:
Scripture reminds us that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). We believe God is present here: through doctors, through healing, and through His people.
If you feel led to give, thank you. No amount is too small.
If you are unable to give, your prayers are just as valuable. We trust that God will continue to sustain this family, and we are grateful to everyone walking alongside them during this time.
