Recent Update March 21st 2026: (Writing is Larry’s sister Deborah Gross). My brother Larry Hall has passed away, March 20, 2026. At Mercy Hospital in Baltimore Maryland. At the end Larry wouldn't be able to get the treatment because of insurance reasons. Larry lost his life insurance eligibility when he left his job due to his cancer. My family is trying to gather funds for a home going service and funeral. We ask within your heart to donate and help support him in his passing to have a proper funeral and service, as he wished. I would like to thank everyone who did donate when Larry was still with us and contributed to a larger cause as a community. Thank you all for your prayers, blessings, love, and contributions.
My name is Larry Hall. I'm seventy-one years old. I've lived in Baltimore, Maryland all my life. I have experienced a very unhappy and lonely childhood, and I became a ward of the state of Maryland ordered by the courts. I'm one of four children. We were placed in different homes due to our parents not being able to care for us. My father died when I was ten years old. We never found our brother and sisters until we became adults. My sister and I saw each other at family visits. The Department of Social Services was responsible for the visits. Many times, I only felt joy when I was able to see my sister. As young children, we had a hard time in foster homes. The physical and mental abuse was unbearable all the time. Confused about who you are as a person and as a child. Because of this, I had problems in school. I met my sister in adulthood years later, and we've always looked out for one another. Even till today, my sister helps me as much as she can financially. But it has gotten to be too much for her, and several other friends have tried to help. Nonetheless, I am appreciative of their help. I feel they are taking from their families to help me. I was employed by the City of Baltimore for twenty years as a heavy equipment operator, and several years ago, I started working at Fort McHenry part-time after I retired. Now I cannot work anywhere due to my health. I've worked hard all my life to care for my family. In August 2024, I was having severe stomach pain. I went to the ER. I was diagnosed with a ruptured hernia and stayed in the hospital for several days. I was informed that I was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer that has metastasized to the liver after a CT scan. The doctor said I only have a year to live.
Chemo was started immediately. I received chemotherapy once a week for eight months. I started feeling better. I felt better. Then I started being sick all the time. The chemo stopped working. The cancer had become immune to the treatment. I started a different treatment, which is a different form of chemotherapy. I tried enrolling for clinical trials, but they weren't available at the present time for pancreatic cancer. The doctor wanted me to try proton therapy, but my health insurance won't pay all of the cost. I can't afford the co-pay. At first, the chemo had slowed down the progression of the cancer. I could start different medications, but my insurance won't pay for it. I will never be cured. My only option is therapy once a week and chemotherapy. I hope I can continue treatment so I may live a little longer.
I am asking for help to stay alive.
If I don’t start treatment I’ll get sicker. My sister has helped me as much as she can. I need assistance with personal needs such as cooking and cleaning my apartment. I am not able to do these things now. I need help with bills, car payments, and medicine. I have no life insurance and insurance in general after I stop working. I have no funds for a funeral! My quality of life has changed so much. I came from a poor and hard working family, I wish I didn’t have to ask for help, but I have no choice. I would like to live a little longer. I need to see my grandchildren graduate from college. I have hope I will be able to start clinical trials. Also start new treatment. The funds collected will help me from suffering and stress. My sister Deborah A. Gross as mentioned previously will be my beneficiary. Any donation will help and I will appreciate. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for any support!
