For so many people, Keven McDonald has always been larger than life — a fierce competitor on the basketball court, a respected member of his community, and most importantly, steadfastly loyal to friends and family. He was a first team All State basketball player at Seton Hall Prep in New Jersey and then went on to be a standout player at the University of Pennsylvania, Keven became one of the most accomplished players in Penn Quakers history. He was a three time All Big 5 and All Ivy selection, earning Ivy League Player of the Year honors his senior year. He left a legacy that would later earn him induction into the Big 5 Hall of Fame, the Ivy League Legends, and Penn’s Athletics Hall of Fame. But beyond the sports accolades, Keven is also known for his unique pesonality and sense of humor.
Today, my brother is facing the toughest battle of his life — a three and a half year fight against prostate cancer as well as spinal surgery to remove a three inch tumor. Through surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, hospital stays, and endless doctor visits, Keven has continued to show the same courage, determination and strength that defined him as an athlete. Even during his darkest days, he has remained hopeful and resilient, refusing to let this disease take away his spirit. But cancer has brought an overwhelming emotional and financial burden to our family. The mounting medical expenses, ongoing treatments, medications, and daily care needs have become more than we can manage alone.
I’m Dana Pettiford, Keven’s sister, and I’m humbly asking his family, friends, former teammates, classmates, and everyone whose life he has touched to help us ease this burden. Every donation — no matter the size — will go directly toward helping offset Keven’s medical bills and ensuring he can continue receiving the care he needs. If you are unable to give, we ask for your prayers, love, and support by sharing this page. Keven has spent his life inspiring others, now we ask the community to stand by him in this fight.
Thank you.
