Hi, my name is Kenia, and I am Ken’s fiancée. I have known Ken for five years, and he has been an incredible partner. That is why I created this GoFundMe to help support us during this very difficult journey.

It all started with back pain that lasted for months. At first, we didn’t think much of it and hoped it would eventually go away. But the pain became so severe that he could no longer handle it. After two ER visits, the third visit led to an emergency MRI where we learned the heartbreaking news — Ken had a tumor on his spine, and not only that, but it was stage 4 cancer. In that moment, my heart shattered. It still feels surreal, but this is now our reality, and we are doing our best to stay strong and positive.

Ken has since undergone spinal surgery. His recovery is going okay, but it has been very difficult. Doctors were able to remove a tumor the size of a fist, but some of the tumor remains because removing it completely was too risky. He also lost a significant amount of blood during surgery and required a blood transfusion. Ken is still in a lot of pain because the remaining tumor is pressing on his nerve, but his surgeon, neurologist, doctors, nurses, and the entire medical team — who have been truly amazing — believe that radiation treatment can destroy the remaining tumor.

Radiation and chemotherapy will begin soon. We are hopeful, but we also understand this will be a long and challenging road ahead.

This GoFundMe will help me care for Ken, cover our household bills, and manage medical and daily living expenses during this time. I will continue working some days at Señor Big Ed’s, and I am forever grateful to them for their kindness and support. They have been incredibly understanding and flexible with my schedule, allowing me to take time off when needed. Even so, my income will not be the same, and our savings alone will not be enough to carry us through this journey.
