Our dear friend Kate Dolan is facing a new and unexpected chapter in her cancer journey, and we want to surround her and her family with the love and support they deserve.

Kate is a beloved 2nd grade teacher at Prairie Ridge Elementary, where she has been inspiring students for 17 years. Her husband, Jason, is a PE teacher at Mill Creek Elementary in the Shawnee Mission School District. Together, they are the proud parents of two amazing daughters — Annie (8th grade) and Molly (5th grade).

Anyone who knows Kate knows her as a bright light — positive, caring, and always putting others first. Now it’s our turn to lift her up.

In Kate’s words:

“Since I have a more clear plan, I wanted to be upfront with my news.

Back in May of 2024 I was diagnosed with DCIS, which is stage 0 breast cancer. I had a double mastectomy, was given a clean bill of health, and was told your chances of recurrence are so low.

Well, clearly I'm a unicorn and didn't fit the mold. I have metastatic breast cancer in bones in my back. I've had radiation on my spine and ribs, had surgery to lower estrogen, and am taking treatment drugs, including a monthly injection to build back bones. I have been advised by my oncologist to take some months off to focus on healing, adjusting my body to these new treatment drugs, and avoiding germs.”

Kate is now focusing on her health and recovery, which means time away from work and regular routines. This GoFundMe has been created to help ease the financial stress for the Dolan family — covering medical expenses, travel for appointments, and day-to-day needs while Kate focuses fully on healing.
