Meet Tyler and Kendra Nielsen, and their three children: Kash, Avrilynn, and Halen.
Kash is a spunky, goofy, sweet, and incredibly loving 9 year old boy. He adores his siblings (and they adore him), loves spending time with his dog, and is absolutely obsessed with all things Spider-Man.
Kash also lives with tuberous sclerosis, epilepsy, ADHD, and autism. Because of the chemotherapy treatments required for his tuberous sclerosis, Kash is immunocompromised, which makes even common illnesses extremely dangerous.
Recently, he caught the flu and has been hospitalized for a week due to complications that occurred while recovering. Doctors thought he was doing better and sent him home, but shortly after Kash was rushed back for severe abdominal pain an suddenly couldn’t breathe on his own.
At this time, the hospitals have had no answers for why this is happening, or what this could mean for Kash’s future.
Over the past year, Kash has been in and out of the hospital more times than any child should. Each hospitalization means Tyler and Kendra must take time off work, travel back and forth to the hospital, and arrange childcare for Avrilynn and Halen, often with very little notice.
In addition to Kash’s current hospitalization (which is still ongoing), Tyler and Kendra are actively reviewing new epilepsy treatment options, as there are many paths forward but each comes with financial and logistical challenges.
The medical bills, lost income, travel costs, and childcare expenses are creating a significant financial strain for the Nielsen family - especially in the months ahead.
Any support, whether through a donation or by sharing this fundraiser, helps ease that burden and allows Tyler and Kendra to focus on what matters most: being there for Kash and their family.
Every family needs a village, and every superhero needs a team.
Thank you for helping bring this friendly neighborhood Spider-Kid home.
