Friends & Family, my name is Charlie & my brother in law, John Norris, is in the fight of his life. John is a 38 year old man who up until 2 months ago was still participating in charity softball games, cornhole tournaments, and umpiring for the cities youth baseball leagues. He is also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. In September, John started to feel pain in his lower back. His doctor sent him for an xray, told him he had arthritis, gave him some muscle relaxers, and sent him on his way. After a few more weeks with no relief and the pain only getting worse, John tried physical therapy and acupuncture. When that didn't work, his doctor decided to send him for an MRI. As he waited for his MRI appointment to roll around, the pain got worse and began to affect his mobility. 4 days before his MRI appointment, after seeing how quickly John was declining, his best friend took him to the hospital. On December 12, John was admitted into the hospital diagnosed with High Grade Metastatic Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma. This is a very rare, very aggressive cancer. John's cancer is in multiple parts of his body including his lungs and his bones. The most recent obstacle is that one of the tumors have gotten so large, that his kidneys cannot drain on their own causing his kidneys to begin to fail. Tomorrow, January 2, John will go for a procedure called a nephrostomy, where doctors will insert tubes into his kidneys to drain them on the outside of his body and he will also be given his first chemotherapy treatment. This is going to be a long difficult battle, but John is ready to fight.
We as a family decided to start this go fund me, because as most of you know, John lives alone. John will not be able to go back to his apartment. When released from the hospital and rehab, John will be moving in with Kristina and I. Any funds raised through this go fund me will go towards his moving expenses. Secondly, John's medical deductable starts over today, as his health insurance runs calendar year, so these funds will cover any medical bills not covered through insurance. We have applied for disability, but there was an error made on his employer's part that has delayed the process, so we have no ETA on when he will start receiving his disability. Lastly, his insurance will only cover a nurse 2 or 3 days a week. We would like to use some of these funds to possibly get a nurse to come in daily and help us care for him.
We appreciate all of the love and support we have received already. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to either myself or Kristina. We wish everyone a happy & healthy New Year! #26belongstoNorris
