Our family is walking through something we never imagined, and we are asking for help during one of the hardest seasons of our lives.
On March 24th, my brother Joseph (“Joey”) was involved in a devastating incident in Hawaiʻi. While riding a quad, he was struck by a vehicle, leaving him with severe spinal injuries. He underwent emergency surgery, where doctors placed rods in his spine, and he is now paralyzed from the waist down.
Joey is currently in a rehabilitation facility on Oʻahu, working hard every day to adjust to this life-changing injury. Despite his strength, the reality is overwhelming.
He has:
* Multiple spinal fractures
* Loss of mobility from the waist down
* A long road of rehabilitation ahead
* And now over $400,000 in medical bills with no insurance
We are also facing an urgent situation—he is expected to be discharged from rehab soon, and he will require:
* 24-hour care
* A safe and accessible living space
* Medical equipment and ongoing therapy
At this time, our family is doing everything we can to apply for assistance programs, but many are delayed, denied, or waitlisted. The timeline we’ve been given is very short, and we are trying to prepare for his immediate needs while also thinking long-term.
Joey is not only a son and a brother—he is also a father. His children need him, and we are believing for strength, healing, and provision through this difficult time.
