Our family is asking for help for someone who has spent nearly his entire life working hard and supporting others.
Jim recently retired after 47 years working as a dairy manager at Safeway, most recently at the store on George Washington Way in Richland, Washington. For decades he served his community, showing up early, working long hours, and providing for his family.
Early last month, Jim went to the hospital because he was experiencing severe and debilitating back pain. What doctors discovered was far more serious than anyone expected. He had a dangerous infection in his body, and only a few days after being admitted he suffered a brain bleed that nearly took his life.
For weeks our family lived moment to moment not knowing what would happen. There were times we were told the outlook was extremely grim. But Jim has continued to fight.
Today, we are incredibly grateful to say that Jim has made significant progress. He is awake, communicating, and determined to keep improving. However, his journey is far from over.
Jim is currently in a skilled nursing facility where he is receiving rehabilitation and care. Right now he is still unable to walk independently, use the restroom on his own, or fully care for himself. He will need ongoing skilled nursing care and rehabilitation until he can regain more strength and independence.
While we are thankful for the progress he has made, the reality is that long-term care and rehabilitation are extremely expensive. Jim’s wife is facing overwhelming medical and care costs during a time that is already emotionally devastating for our family.
We started this GoFundMe to help cover:
• Skilled nursing facility care
• Rehabilitation and recovery support
• Medical expenses related to his condition
• Basic living support while he continues to recover
Jim has always been the type of person who showed up for others. Now he needs his community behind him while he continues fighting to recover.
Jim is fighting to be here and to live, but he is not out of the woods yet. Every day he is working toward the goal of walking again, regaining independence, and returning home to his wife.
Any donation, no matter the size, will help relieve some of the financial pressure and allow our family to focus on supporting Jim’s recovery.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this campaign and keeping Jim in your prayers means just as much to us.
Thank you for taking the time to read Jim’s story and for supporting our family during this incredibly difficult time.
