As many of you know, Jerry was involved in a very tragic shooting while on duty. He now faces a long road to recovery—one that has been both physically and emotionally overwhelming. The last thing Jerry and his wife, Kathryn, should have to worry about during this difficult time is financial strain. (Please refer to the paragraphs at the bottom for additional information.)
On behalf of his family, I am humbly asking for any support you are able to give. No amount is too small, and every contribution will make a meaningful difference.
Jerry’s family—his wife, Kathryn, and their daughters, Amy, Azrielle, Elizabeth, and Tara—are profoundly grateful for your continued prayers as they walk through this difficult time.
Below is a post shared by his sister, who will provide updates on Jerry’s progress as they are emotionally able.
“Today doesn’t feel real… this is the kind of thing you see in movies or hear about happening to someone else’s family. Our family is devastated, scared, and in complete shock.
But even in the middle of all this, the love, kindness, and unity shown to my brother, his wife, and our entire family has been nothing short of overwhelming. The support from Tifton PD, Tift County, GBI, GSP, Albany PD, BHSO and every agency and person who helped escort us to Grady was truly heaven-sent. We are so grateful—there just aren’t enough words right now.
Please keep my brother and our family lifted in your prayers. He has a long road ahead, and we’re holding on to every prayer, every bit of love, and every act of kindness.”
Thank you all. ❤️
*Please note that Workers’ Compensation does not fully cover the officer’s expenses which is why this GoFundMe has been established to assist his family. Jerry’s family will have access to the funds*
***This part is not for the amazing supporters, this is intended to address any misconceptions or unwarranted negative commentary regarding the donations for the officers-
Many officers in the department have to work overtime, extra duty, special details, and/or part time jobs to supplement income in order to make a livable wage…especially when raising multiple children. Not only that, but the wife is only eligible for FMLA in these circumstances unless she has enough PTO stashed away to cover the time she would need by her spouses side during recovery. WC nor House Bill 105 does anything for that either. So this dual income family that also depended on extra income from extra work just went down to one bi-weekly salary. (Thank you to K. Spires for this insight) In addition, both Workmen’s Compensation and the House bill benefits must be applied for so an immediate turnaround should not be expected.
This is not an effort to make the officers wealthy—nor would it. it is simply meant to provide additional support to help supplement the loss of household income during their physical and emotional recovery.
