On Thursday, January 22nd, Jenna Golden presented at the emergency room with severe abdominal pain among other concerning symptoms. Tests confirmed she had a bowel obstruction and needed emergency surgery to repair a strangulated umbilical hernia. After being transferred by ambulance to another hospital, surgery was performed on January 23rd. Complications arose during surgery that resulted in a portion of her intestines being removed. After a lengthy and uncomfortable hospital stay through January 28th, Jenna came home to continue healing.
Unfortunately, Jenna did not improve as expected once home. Plagued with persistent fevers, severe pain, and little improvement to her abdominal symptoms, she followed up with her doctors detailing these concerns. With no improvement and relentless pain, she returned to the emergency room on Thursday, February 5th. Here, Jenna was diagnosed with a post-surgical hematoma as well as an infection and was transferred to yet another hospital via ambulance to rectify these issues.
Now in Erie, Jenna underwent a procedure to drain her hematoma in an effort to stop the growing infection. On Saturday, February 7th, Jenna was once again released from the hospital to continue healing at home with hopes of no further complications.
This unexpected illness put much stress on Jenna’s family, lifestyle, and career. She will require wound care and home health services and will not be able to work during her recovery. Between the medical bills, ambulance transports, travel, missed work, and logistics to continue daily life for Jenna and Eric’s 1st grade son, Jacob, the financial burden is extreme. Total medical costs are unknown at this time. This doesn’t begin to cover the mental toll this traumatic experience had on Jenna and her loved ones.
Jenna is a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her unconditional devotion to her career as a therapist has touched countless lives in the Twin Tiers. She is often the first to reach out in times of trouble and always lends an empathetic hand to those in need.
