We are reaching out in support of our dear friend Jay Walea, his wife Karen, and their daughters Jayden and Saige.

Jay is currently experiencing liver failure and is receiving care at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. A liver transplant is expected, though the timing remains uncertain. Karen will continue to update this page as more information becomes available. While Jay remains at Mayo, Karen will need to be away from home for an extended period. Our goal is to help relieve the financial burden of this journey so the family can focus soley on Jay’s care and recovery.

For over 30 years, Jay has dedicated himself to managing and conserving the wild lands of the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy—places so many of us cherish. His friends and family know him best for his genuine lowcountry personality, his expertise as a woodsman, and his masterful skills as a naturalist and sportsman. He never seeks recognition, even when he has more than earned it.
