Our family is walking through an incredibly difficult and unexpected season.

My 77-year-old mother-in-law was recently hospitalized for 8 days with a severe case of cellulitis. During her hospital stay, she developed severe hospital delirium, which has been heartbreaking to witness and navigate. She is now in a rehabilitation facility working hard to regain her strength so she can safely return home.

Because of the severity of her delirium, she is currently unaware of the state of her finances. Our focus right now is protecting her peace and allowing her to heal without added stress.

While she was in the hospital, I went to her home to make sure her bills were paid and everything was in order. That’s when we discovered something devastating.

Back in December, after paying to have her driveway redone, she was taken advantage of and fraudulently charged a total of $27,000 — wiping out nearly all of her savings. She has always been the kind of person who would help anyone, and sadly, someone exploited that kindness.

We are actively working to try to recover the stolen funds, but that will take time. In the meantime, her medical and rehabilitation expenses are immediate, and the financial loss has created significant hardship.

We are asking for help to:

• Ensure she can return home safely without financial fear
