In the words of Jackie Horn, let's "kick cancer's butt!"
Because he was so special to us at Wingate University Class of '89, Virginia Rhyne, Jan Tyson, and I have decided to create this GoFundMe account for Jackie, also known as "Jack, Jack in the Box, Bean head, and best friend." Knowing him at Wingate was a real treasure. He made everything fun, whether it be in the dining hall, student center, hanging out at Bridges/Rushing dorm, Alumni Hall, or just walking around campus. He always made us laugh and was a true friend that you could always count on. Most of all, he loved and knew Jesus as his personal Savior and was involved in the Christian Student Union. He was always there when you needed a hug or a listening ear. He was and is special and loved by so many.
In May 2024, Jackie was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer that spread to his liver. He had approximately 30 chemotherapy treatments and numerous surgeries and hospital stays. In May 2025, he had to leave his job at UNC-Wilmington, where he loved doing video and production work. After an extended hospital stay in October 2025, he decided to stop treatment and enter hospice care. He's been at home since the first of November and is being taken good care of by his whole family.
His friends and fellow co-workers have asked how they can help. Besides prayer, we felt creating this account would be beneficial in assisting his family with the medical bills, hospice care, food, or whatever else is needed. Your donation will go directly to the family.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!
