Yesterday, the world lost a bright, kind young soul when Ivan, beloved son of Jesse Mattson, passed away unexpectedly.
Those who knew him will remember a brilliant young man with mechanical aptitude and an inquisitive mind. A talented drone pilot with dreams of getting behind the controls of aircraft one day. Sunday Nov., 23, he spent the day at the Seattle flight museum, excited about where life might take him next and talking about flying his new drone on Monday, Nov. 24.
What most people did not see was that over the last month, Ivan had been the target of relentless online bullying. His family did everything they could to protect and support him, including changing his phone number, working with his high school, and getting him into therapy. In spite of their efforts and love, this terrible loss still happened.
Ivan’s family is shattered. There are no words that can make sense of this kind of heartbreak. As they face funeral costs and the long road of grief and healing ahead, we are asking our community to come together around them in the way we know best: by easing some of the financial weight so they can focus on each other.
Funds from this GoFundMe will go directly to Ivan’s family to help with:
Funeral and memorial expenses
Time off work to grieve and make arrangements
Ongoing counseling and support for the family
Any additional unexpected costs during this time
If you are unable to give, sharing this campaign and holding Ivan’s family in your thoughts is deeply appreciated.
Ivan’s loved ones are not in a place to be active on social media right now, and we ask that you please respect their privacy. If you have questions or would like to send support, please reach out to close friends rather than contacting the family directly.
Thank you for helping honor Ivan’s memory with love, compassion, and a commitment to being kinder to one another, both online and in person.
